What is Youth Advocates for Climate Action?

Youth Advocates for Climate Action is a youth-led initiative which seeks to include and empower 15 young girls, in advocating and lobbying for the implementation of climate-change adaptation strategies starting from their local level. Under this project, we also conducted SRHR and reusable pad-making training to the 20 girls from rural areas of Sindhuli district.

Training of Trainers for Climate Advocates

From 5 rural districts of Nepal, 3 girls were selected and they participated in 5 days residential Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop in Kathmandu. The workshop was aimed to literate participants on the climate change, its impacts, and local, national and global interventions in its adaptation and mitigation along with empowering them with the advocacy and lobbying skills so that they can contribute in climate change adaptation and mitigation.

Environment session at Local Level

The trainers returned to their district after the training and prepared to lead a two-day workshop for 30 young people in their own locality to encourage youth involvement in environmental advocacy. The workshop was also supported and encouraged by the representatives of the municipality. The participants also conducted one-on-one dialogue between representatives of municipality and the youths about environmental conservation strategies and approaches.

Reusable Pad-making training at Sindhuli

This activity was initiated in order to aware and empower 20 girls from rural areas of Sindhuli district in the areas of Sexual and Reproductive Health and reusable pad making. Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights experts led informative sessions on women’s reproductive health, different menstrual products, and hygiene, along with various interactive games. Concurrently, the participants attended a reusable pad-making training workshop on the prerequisites of pad making and its required materials, cutting and sewing techniques, and usage methods. An experienced pad-making expert led the reusable pad-making training workshop. The activity was highly successful, as it empowered girls through the use of eco-friendly products and instilled independence in them to create these products for themselves and their loved ones.
