Project Manjari is a grassroots menstrual health and hygiene initiative led by We for Change in collaboration with the Nepal Red Cross Society of Nobel College. Focused on building awareness in marginalized and less-educated communities, the project takes an inclusive, intergenerational approach by engaging women, men, and youth to challenge deep-rooted taboos around menstruation.
While many young people today receive reproductive health education in schools, older generations and community women are often left behind. Project Manjari addresses this gap by hosting community sessions that cover the biological, hygienic, and cultural aspects of menstruation. Using tools like anatomical charts and real-life conversations, these sessions are designed to be practical, participatory, and deeply local.
Since its launch, the project has successfully run demo programs in Bhaktapur and Kadaghari, trained local volunteers, and rolled out weekly awareness events in communities across Nepal. Through social media mini vlogs and collaboration with changemakers, Project Manjari continues to amplify community voices while protecting participants' privacy.
Looking ahead, Phase Two will expand the project’s reach to male family members, creating a stronger and more supportive environment for menstrual health.
Project Manjari is not just an awareness campaign. It is a movement to break silence, build understanding, and bring lasting change to how menstruation is seen and supported in Nepali communities.
